The newly discovered facility consists of a natural ”canyon” with steep rock walls on three sides. Once a reindeer had entered the canyon, it was easy to keep it there. This is according to Per Jordhøy from NINA who has visited the site since its discovery. This isn’t a natural place for reindeer to go, so they must have been deliberately led there by hunters. The canyon has previously been covered by a permanent snowfield. This year, a lot of the snow has melted. The discovery of “beating sticks” and pieces of wood to be used to make “beating sticks” clearly confirm that hunting has taken place here and the form this hunting has taken. |
