Visit of Minister of the Environment
In his speech, Mayor Hole emphasised that for generations efforts have been to protect and secure the mountain areas for future generations. Attaining the status of World Heritage Site would be an invaluable step in such a process. He emphasised that this was not a local project, but rather a project involving 13 municipalities and 4 counties.

Mayer Hole drew attention to the expert efforts made by the project and which have now resulted in an expert report, submitted to the Directorate for Cultural Heritage and the Directorate for Nature Management. This should form a sound basis for further efforts to secure a nomination. Mayor Hole’s entire speech can be found at http://www.villreinfangst.no/news/Samkjort_innlegg.doc

Minister Helen Bjørnøy responded by saying that the visit had been both interesting and informative. She said that she wished that she had had better time to chat with more people, but gave assurances that all input received during the visit would be treated in a serious manner and followed up by the respective directorates as well as the Ministry. Wild Reindeer Hunting as World Heritage hopes, therefore, to be afforded the opportunity to give the minister a more detailed presentation of the project at a later date.
