Ms Sørensen made reference to the wild reindeer both as a hallmark of quality for the area and also the reindeer’s vulnerability. At the same time as the reindeer can serve as a branded product for selling the area, we must also bear in mind that reindeer are a vulnerable species in need of special protection.
In her address, Ms Sørensen emphasised Norway’s unique position in relation to the protection of wild reindeer, and, not least, as the guardian of a unique cultural landscape with reindeer, hunting heritage and old hunting traditions that are still in practice today. |
