Mayors chose wild reindeer hunting
Bengt Fasteraune, mayor of Dovre Municipality, chose the Barthbue cabin in Grimsdalen valley. Barthbue is an information point telling the story of the great effort made by Edvard K. Barth and Sonja Barth in connection with registration of our hunting heritage and other cultural heritage sites, not least in the Rondane mountains. Barthbue also contains a lot of information about the trapping systems in the area, primarily those connected with wild reindeer hunting, but also some more exotic activities, for example falcon hunting.

Per Dag Hole, mayor of Lesja Municipality, did not choose a particular place, but took a more sweeping look at connections between the many small and maybe insignificant traces of previous generations’ activities in the mountains. Mr Hole pointed out the variation in cultural heritage sites and how they can appeal to our own imagination – what life was like in the mountains in the times when reindeer hunting was not a recreational activity, but a necessary source of food. Mr Hole also mentioned the Wild Reindeer Hunting as World Heritage project in this connection.
